My Sexy New Laptop
You know guys, my blog is pretty much dead now.
D:
Really sorry. For some reason, ever since the start of this year (or maybe around that), I suddenly lost all my inspiration to make fun blog posts or even reviews on music. I’ve gotten just so LAZY that I can’t get myself to start writing anything.
So that is why I’m going to MAKE myself try to write up something.
…
So why not make a little blog post on my totally new awesome new laptop?
=D

So here’s my old Tyrannosaurs Rex:

A Dell Inspirion 600m
I have had it ever since the 6TH GRADE. Which means I have now had it for about 6 DAMN YEARS.
It worked AMAZINGLY when I first had it. It ran perfectly fine. Very quick, fast, responsive, and the screen was enough to satisfy me. However, over the years, the thing just started to crappier, and crappier, and even more crappier when you thought it wouldn’t end.
For one thing, it just gave me a countless amount of technical issues. I have no idea, but for some reason, this laptop may be the main reason why I have had headaches those past 6 years. Heck, there was even this one time where it’s hard drive actually CRASHED when I downloaded Ragnarok Online and I had to get a new one.
Also, if you take a look at the picture, it looks rather nice. However, that’s not how it is now. My 600m is damaged everywhere. I don’t have an F5 button, my arrow keys are hard to work with, there’s a whole bunch of markings on the outside thanks to my brothers.
In addition to that, I don’t know what happened, but the computer just slower, slower, and SLOWER. It got so bad, it got to the point where it took almost 7 minutes or so for me to turn it on, and log into my account. I have no idea why, but I couldn’t STAND it.
In fact, I couldn’t even play most video games on it because the game just started to slow down after an hour or less of playing (which explains why I stuck to RO, but that may be the only good thing about this damn thing).
Oh, and you know what, there are actually 2 physical damages that made me realize I REALLY needed a new laptop. For one thing, I don’t know if it was the doing my sister (I highly suspect it is), or if it was just an accident. But anyways, my laptop screen was SCREWED UP. It was broken, so that I had to keep it up against a wall or else the entire screen would fall off, and lord knows what I would have done if that happened. This really reduced the whole point of having a laptop.
In addition to that damage, possibly the worst damage happened to my battery. For some reason, my laptops battery refused to charge at all. I don’t know why. But I always had to keep it connected to my charger or else it would shut done. This really made things harder on me since I couldn’t disconnect my laptop from my charger to print things out.
And that was the last straw
I had a conversation with my mom about how much I hated my old laptop, so she told me that I actually could get a new one! However, I had to use up all the money I had in order to help pay for it, in addition to having a budget of under a $1000. Now, as much as I wanted an electric violin, I realize that I really needed a new laptop since it was almost the new school year, and of course, I wanted to play some video games. So of course, I accepted the offer.
And now, look at my beautiful new shining laptop:

A Dell Studio 17
Yes, I know. At first, I was all “I don’t want a Dell anymore!” Especially after the issues I had with my old one. However, you know what, SCREW ALL YOU DELL HATERS. Because god damn, this is one AMAZING Dell Laptop especially at it’s price of around $1000. ($950 after rebate!) In fact, it’s so amazing, that I’m actually going to do a REVIEW on it. Hey, it’s my blog, and I can do whatever the hell I want! So lets begin shall we?
Appearance:
So after having an extremely dull and boring laptop for 6 years, I really wanted something edgier and sexier. I’ll admit, I really liked the designs of some other laptops, but I absolutely love the style of the dell studio 17. It’s sleek, sharp, simple, and sexy. And when you touch it, it’s really nice and smooth (plus shiny!), so it really feel likes something very high tech, instead of feeling like cheap plastic like with my old laptop. There are actually a few different colors to choose from. I really wanted to get a different color, but black is all they had. But hey, it’s still sleek and sexy.
Screen:
OH MY FREAKIN DEAR LORD. The screen is one of THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A LAPTOP THIS PRICE. After having such an icky small screen, I really wanted one giganto one, giganto and beautiful enough to play my video games and really get into it. And holy crap did I get it. The Dell Studio 17 has a beautiful 17 Inch screen with a resolution of up to who knows when. It’s PERFECT. When I played my games for the first time on my new laptop, I couldn’t help but drool at how beautiful and BIG it was! Total win.
Mousepad and Keyboard:
Now, this one I really don’t make such a big deal about. When it comes to the keyboard, I really like the feel of them. There’s more of an “edge” and comfort them. I really can’t explain it, but I just really like it. For some reason though, sometimes when I type, annoying random things happen like me creating page breaks or stuff like that, but it may be pressing the CTRL button instead of the SHIFT button. Oh yeah, and did I mention that theres a number pad too? I really don’t use it too much, but it makes typing numbers a lot easier.
However, I’m not a huge fan of the mouse pad. I really don’t like it is on the left side. It looks more like they built a regular keyboard with the mouse pad right in the middle, then added a number pad on the right side and didn’t move the mouse pad right into the middle. Plus, the mouse pad is too awkward for me to use, and insists on doing weird things when I use it. Luckily, I barely use it, and stick to using my mouse.
Speakers:
Oh DEAR LORD. This may the only part where my old laptop actually did BETTER when compared to the Dell Studio 17. Oh dear lord. Yes, the speakers do get loud. However, I don’t know if it’s just me, but they’re HORRIBLE. They have this horrible scratchy-ness and unpleasant sound to it. I cannot STAND listening to a lot of my music with “regular” instruments like a piano or guitar, as it just gets so DISTORTED AND SCRATCHY, that my eyes just start to bleed really badly. DXXXXXXXXXX
I mean WTF Dell? You really screwed up on this one. The only time this scratchy ness actually sounds good is when I’m listening to techno music (MEG, Perfume, etc), as it adds bit of an extra cool “distortion” to it. Aside from that, DAMN, these speakers SUCK big time.
Speed and Graphics:
And this is one of the main reasons why I really wanted a new laptop. I didn’t want to wait FOREVER just for my laptop to turn on. Luckily with the Dell Studio 17’s Intel Core 2 Duo (at around 2.5 Ghz), in addition to the GODLY 6GB of memory, that is never going to be a problem for quite a while. Starting up the computer is amazingly quick, and thanks to the godly amount of memory and processor speed, I can easily run Firefox, Word, iTunes, GIMP, and Ragnarok Online without any slowdown. I really don’t have any computer intense programs at the moment, but I’m pretty happy with what it can do now.
When it comes to graphics, I really can’t make a good judgement on that. I tend to play games that aren’t on the cutting edge of technology (Ragnarok Online anyone). But hey, I have heard that it can handle some of those big games like DOOM and whatnot. In addition, I never have to worry about having my MMOs slowing down due to my computer. The only time I will ever have to worry about that would be because it was the games fault.
Ports:
Now, with my previous laptop, pretty much most of the USB ports and whatnot where in the back, which I HATED. It was always guessing game trying to figure out where to insert my jump drive or charger. But now, since all the ports are on the side, everything is
LOADS easier to do and I never have to really worry about squishing something since I can easily see it.
Heating:
My old laptop was HOT. And not in a good way. I have possibly the HOTTEST room in the entire house, so having a laptop that heated up so badly, in addition to being such a hot environment was very scary for me. It was also uncomfy, and way too hot to actually use as a “laptop”. However, the Dell Studio 17 definitely manages heat WAY better. It’s never been extremely hot, just slightly warm. I’m also guessing it’s thanks to the efficient Core 2 Duo, and the nice little “elevation” it gets in the back, so that the laptop isn’t completely flat on the surface. There’s a little elevation there so that air can flow through
Extras:
Hey, guess what? My new laptop also has a WEBCAM on it! YAY! The quality is HORRIBLE, and so is the mic for it, but it’s still a cute little bonus to have, and I’m sure it will be fun with my friends when I do eventually get to use it as one.
Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with my brand new Dell Studio 17 Laptop. Aside from the horrendous speakers, this new laptop totally OWNS in every way compared to my old crappy 600m. Sure, I’m sure there are better laptops out there with better systems, cards, and all that stuff, but at the price of $1000, this is an AMAZING laptop that totally owns! BUY IT if you’re in a budget like mines!
You won’t regret it!
