A new artist, Koda Kumi will be featured on my blog.
While not as popular as Utada Hikaru or Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi is still popular in the J-pop scene. However, she only started getting recognized when she started making appearances in videos games such as singing 1000 no Kotoba/Real Emotion for the Japanese version of Final Fantasy X-2.
What makes Koda Kumi different from most very popular artists right now is that she seems to have this ability to magically change her look automatically. One moment, you see her near naked and sexy and the next moment you see her being the cutest thing ever.
She also dabbles into a lot of types of music. She does a lot of bubble gum pop, rock songs, hip hop/urban songs, and slow songs too. While her voice doesn’t have a lot of range, theres still strength to it.
I shall start by reviewing FREAKY, and then all the other singles she released for her Kingdom album.
I remember reading somewhere that:
Ayu is the Pop Queen.
Koda Kumi is the ’slut’.
Hikki’s the weird one.
Not that I don’t like Koda’s music though XD

Slut? You must only watch videos like JUICY or TABOO then.

Oh come on, I’m sure everyone knows that Kumi is everywhere.
EVERYWHERE.
To the point where it’s creepy.

What would BoA be though?
She’s pretty influential.
I’d call her foreigner since she came from Korea, but that’s an insult in Japan

In my opinion, the queens of J-Pop are:
Ayumi Hamasaki (more on the J-Rock side)
Koda Kumi (more on the J-Urban side)
Namie Amuro (more on the J-R&B/Dance side)
Utada Hikaru (more on the J-Pop/Experimental side)
