ayaka – Winding Road [5th Single]

Tracklist

  1. WINDING ROAD
  2. WINDING ROAD (Instrumental)

This is ayaka’s 5th single and a collaborative single with folk singing duo Kobukuro. It was released on February 28, 2007. It reached #2 on the Oricon Charts and has sold 351,758 copies.

Winding Road is one of the few upbeat songs that I really enjoy from ayaka. Mainly because it has one of the best acapella sequences during the beginning and at the end. The folk song duo Kobukuro have rather deep voices that work blend very well with ayakas deep voice too, and all of their voices have quite a lot of power to them. However, I think the most notable part of the song (other than those awesome acapella sequences) is during the bridge, where all 3 singers decide to go all out with their ad-libbing, and it was rather interesting to see one of the guys and their falsetto. XD Although one thing that kinda scared me about this song was ayakas voice. It was perfect as always, but it scared me how she overpowered BOTH of the other singers. I mean, you can hear their voices, but ayakas voice just overpowers BOTH of their voices. O_____o I mean, was this intentional? Did ayaka just sing louder than Kobukuro? Or does ayaka really have a stronger and deeper voice than 2 male singers combined? I have never watched a live of this performance, so I really do not know.

Overall Rating:

4.5 out of 5

  1. My favourite thing about this song is just how tight all the harmonies are. They’re all massively on tune with each other, it’s rather impressive. It’s probably more impressive live (which they pull off really well as well). Although I personally think they overdid the adlibbing at the end. XD

I also listened to this song way too much when it first came out XD.

    Yeah, it’s impressed.
They have great control over their voices and blended so well together.
    And I liked the overdone-ness.
